Why do the liberals think that more gov't is better?

Why do they think that government is a good thing. I think that the less government knows about you the better. Reason being we escaped a big tyrannical government with Britain. They were very eclectic in every thing they had there hands in. They even forced the troops in inside of the homes of Americans. History shows that when government gets bigger that people lose their freedom. We have government taking over the auto industry. We have them doing health care. They are going after individual small businesses that have individual health care this is an attack on what has made America great. So why do they think more government is good.
