Fellow Americans- What would you do?

I'm not "proud" to be American but I don't hate it. It would depend on what the person was saying. Sometimes people believe these false stereotypes about American and I try to explain that, that's all they are - False stereotypes. But if it's just someone talking smack in general, I'd leave. If I were to say anything or do anything, that'd just make them view us even more negatively, right?
