Does anyone else get bored reading these fantasy books?

It could be, like you said, you don't like Salvatore's style, or also the story it sounds like. Sometimes when you read a lot of a particular genre, it is hard to get into another. Usually the writing style is different, and if you're used to one style, it might be hard to follow another. As far as LOTR goes, it is considered more of a classic, than fantasy. I read a lot, and I consider LOTR probably the fantasy trilogy of classics. I have a friend who likes paranormal romance books, and she suggested I read the Twilight Series. I did and I enjoyed them, even though I was hesitant and don't read books like that. She suggested other paranormal romance books, even though I don't usually read them. I HATED them so badly, I didn't even finish them. They were so....ugh...dull and all the same story. So, just because you might like one book in a genre, doesn't mean you will like them all or even another.
